I’m joining the Disability March online because I can’t join the actual March in NYC. I have metastatic breast cancer that has spread to my bones and makes standing or walking for any period of time very painful. While I’m one of the very few who have lived with this terminal illness for over 13 yrs, it has changed my life in many ways and disability is something I’ve had to learn to live with.
I’m “marching” so that we can be seen and heard by the next Administration, one that has largely either ignored or marginalized both women and the disabled. I’m also hoping that as health care is reformed, yet again, that people like myself aren’t forgotten. We need to keep access to health care and support. We need continued commitment to research for not only my disease but all illnesses and disabilities. We must be heard and have earned our rights though generations of hard work and sacrifice. We won’t turn back now.
There is strength in numbers and there are A LOT of us out there!
Before cancer I was a photographer and artist. Some of my work can be seen at www.christinafalisephoto.com.
