Rather than joining in Oakland’s Women’s March, I will be caring for my husband of 48 years who had surgery last week. The number of issues with the new administration’s plans are countless but participating in the Women’s March would reflect my concern for older women who now must rely on Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security to survive. Cuts to those programs will be devastating and many elderly women may find themselves homeless or without access to medical care. And, I would march on behalf of my beautiful granddaughters who may face the same challenges to women’s rights as when I was their age.
