I won’t be able to join my sister and her friends at the march in Denver because of my degenerative lumbar scoliosis and hip arthritis, which make being on my feet for more than a few minutes very painful. But I care deeply about what’s happening to women’s rights in this country, and I’m very concerned about how much worse it will be under a Trump administration. With no checks and balances, the GOP will be free to continue eroding our rights, and Trump will sign the legislation. The only path left to us is resistance, and I intend to do whatever I can during the next four years to make sure we aren’t sent back 100 years. It isn’t just women who need to resist. It’s also people of color, LGBT people, atheists and people of faith other than Christianity, parents of school children, the poor and the middle class—basically, anyone who isn’t wealthy and white. I hope the women’s march of January 21 is the first of many.
I am a cancer survivor who is worried about losing her healthcare, and I’m worried about the planet my children will inherit. I have a degree in journalism and worked in marketing communications most of my career. I am retired, and my husband recently had to retire early after losing his job and not being able to find another one due to his age. We are worried about coming GOP changes to Social Security and Medicare. We both vote as independents, and are both quite liberal.
