The image is of the medical tattoo on my forearm. The blue circle is the international symbol for diabetes. The elephant is an homage to my best friend who died of diabetes complications. The words “Type I diabetes” serve in lieu of a medic alert bracelet I wore for 33 years. The red drop signifies every drop of blood I shed doing blood glucose tests.

I join the disability march because I need to make a stand: I cannot walk far but I want to be counted. Instead of sadness – I celebrate my  ability to participate in any way possible. The more of us – the more a feeling of synergy grows. I don’t join the march as an artist but as a PWD – person with diabetes and concurrent chronic illnesses. I exist, I am not invisible and I want the new government to know that as a disabled Medicare recipient I need my medicine and my insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor. I am here and I am not giving up.
