I’m 56 years old and have an invisible disability. Two years ago I had a brainstem stroke which resulted in numerous issues including Wallenberg’s Syndrome, double vision, vertigo, the inability to walk and to do most everyday activities. Though I have progressed well in my recovery – I can walk again, my vision is stabilized, and I am working; I still have vestibular issues that affect my balance. I often use an assistive device when walking on unfamiliar terrain and I am terrified of falling. I tried to figure out how I could manage the march in DC because it’s so important to show up and call out the incoming Administration as well as current legislators who don’t seem to remember that they work for us. Their positions on so many topics – including disabilities – cannot slide by without being challenged! Unfortunately, I don’t have the stamina to manage the drive/ride in, the length of the walk and protracted standing, even though I know I would be buoyed up with excitement and adrenline (the crash afterward would be so not pretty). To all of you in DC and around the country and Canada: Thank you for marching and standing up!
