Marching for affordable Medicare/Healthcare for my American sisters dying from Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC – the only breast cancer that kills). In America 40,000 people/year die from MBC. The Canadian death rate is population proportionate. Without affordable medical coverage my friends in the USA will die. 30% diagnosed with lower stage breast cancer will progress to Stage 4, known as MBC. 6% are diagnosed de novo. 98% of the 36% diagnosed with breast cancer will die, after an average of 36 months, yet only 6% of research funds are designated to MBC. The threatened upcoming ACA changes will see my friends dying at an accelerated rate. #stage4deservesmore
I’ve been living with breast cancer for 21 years, the last 4 years with MBC. I’m alive today because of Canadian healthcare and international collaborative research. I long ago lost count of the number of American friends I’ve lost to MBC. The collaborative research efforts of our countries must continue to be funded. My life and my friends lives depend on it.
