How I would love to be able to march in Washington on January 21 with
other women who are also disgusted by the disrespectful, hate-filled tone
of the rhetoric we have heard from Donald Trump. As an educator I spent my
life helping young people (and some not-so-young) to respect themselves
and others. With Michelle Obama I was “shaken to my core” by the way this
man bragged about his sexual exploits and then tried to blame the victims.
I have spent many years living with people of different colors and
religions and have been frequently humbled by their goodness and their
willingness to forgive ignorant people who think that they are superior.
My present involvement with people seeking asylum in a peaceful country is
a deeply moving experience. I marvel at their courage and trust in those
of us who live here. My prayer includes the hope that this gathering of
concerned women will help to change the attitude and behavior of those who
lack respect for any other person. Hopefully Donald Trump will be among
them.
