I am 33 years old and I live in New York. I was born with Cerebral Palsy and walk with the assistance of crutches. I try to view my crutches, my disability as a gift but this is admittedly, sometimes difficult because of the limitations others impose on me and the assumptions that are made. I am a social worker in a preschool for children with special needs. I truly love my job because it has allowed me to give back, in a way, to all of those that helped me get to where I am today. I love seeing each child make progress and working as a team to help that happen.
I want to march because the man-baby about to enter the White House does NOT represent me. He as a matter of fact, stands for all I am against; indifference to the needs of others, hatred, narcissism and self-interest. We need to be a nation united and caring, open to helping those in need and he has shown to be opposed to all of this. He has proved to be opposed to all the values I thought this nation held dear. This is someone who mocked a reporter with a disability and was never sorry for it. He doesn’t truly see our value in society or the people that we are. It is my hope, that by participating in this virtual march, I, along with everyone else participating, will send a clear message that we will not be silent, we will fight everyday to ensure that this administration works for the good of everyone in this nation. I want this man to know that we will be watching and holding him accountable.
