Amy Blanchard

I’m joining the disability march because, as a woman with Spina Bifida who wears short leg braces and has the ability to walk but not the ability to walk without discomfort after just a short time, I still want to be a part of this important movement and feel badly that I can’t physically do so. I am thrilled to find the Disability Walk and so proud and honored to be a part of it, showing our new President and Government Officials that we stand up against him – whether or not we are physically able to.

I was born with Spina Bifida in the mid 1970s. My defect is low on my back, so that I am “only” affected from the knees down, but I have worn leg braces all my life, and have walked with the aid of a walking stick for the last 20+ years. I am married to a physically able man for going on 18 years and together we have a beautiful, smart, quirky, curious, amazing 14 year old healthy daughter. I’ve been writing about “Sweetie and Me” on my blog for the last 11 years or so at http://www.spinabifidamoms@blogspot.com.
