I am joining the Disability March because if it were not for my chronic back condition I would be marching today.  I’m currently laid up in pain, though, so I have to cheer on those who are marching.  I’m deeply worried for all those that the election of this President and the policies of the Republican Congress are going to harm.  I have been dependent on the ACA for health insurance for the last three years.  Without that coverage I would have suffered and my husband, who has a chronic autoimmune disease, would have been hospitalized and may have died.  America should be a land of equality and opportunity, not a land where people are crushed by the costs of being ill.  I am doing everything I can from my bed to speak out in defense of women, the poor, people of color, immigrants, and LGBTQ people.  We must speak truth to power and make as much noise as we can so evil cannot be done without scrutiny and the attention of the public.
I am a former mental health social worker who had to stop working due to my back condition.  I am now a professional seamstress and blogger and using the time and flexibility that comes from being disabled to do everything I can to help organize in the face of the new administration.
