Due to my own health issues, including a recent back surgery, and my son’s disability (autism) there was no way we were going to be able to participate in the women’s march.
Right after the election, in a state of anxiety and depression, I joined the pantsuit nation group on Facebook and began seeking out support from my community. As a lesbian woman with health issues and the mother of a severely disabled son (who relies on social security and Medicaid for his day treatment and home services) I am terrified of the new administration. I think Trump is a wolf- and only slightly hidden in sheep’s clothes. I worry about human rights issues, women’s issues, glbtq issues… I fear that so many of the gains made during the Obama administration will be lost. I fear that we’re going to go back 50+ years in human rights. I would have loved to March with my fellow humanitarians, feminists and human right advocates- whether in Washington or in my home city of Minneapolis. I have a degree in mental health but have been an at-home mom for 10 years with my son- working as his advocate. It is a full-time job!
