A pregnant, smiling woman with dark hair, wearing a white shirt and jeans and standing in front of a multi-colored wall.

Statement: I am recovering from a very recent c-section and I’m caring for a newborn. I am glad to be able to participate in the march this way. Thanks to the legal recognition of our marriage, my wife and I were both able to be listed on our child’s birth certificate. Yet my wife’s legal rights to our own child are now under threat. I know so many people who were unable to get necessary medical care before the Affordable Care Act and now will lose that access. Many children at the school where I teach rightly fear for their safety and that of their parents because they are immigrants, refugees, Muslims and/or people of color and Trump has insulted, threatened and vilified them. Parents of my students with disabilities are rightly concerned about what this election will mean for their children’s futures. This is not normal. I am committed to resisting policies that harm people and rejecting officials who promote bigotry. The positions espoused by Trump, Pence and their ilk are wrong, dangerous, and not representative of we the people. We can and will continue to fight.

Bio: I am a married queer woman, new mother, and special education teacher.
