A woman in a purple shirt crossing her arms. She was experiencing severe colitis-related pain during this photo shoot for work, but tried to conceal it. Maybe you wouldn’t have been able to tell.

I refuse to be a bystander as the well-being of immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and people with disabilities is threatened. My autoimmune disease, ulcerative colitis, prevents me from physically participating in the women’s march, but you can bet I will be present in spirit now and for the next four years.

I am a social science researcher for a non-profit in NYC, focusing on immigration. My past work has focused on issues of domestic violence and sexual assault among LGBTQ populations, college students, and Latino youth. I have an autoimmune disease, but I won’t let it slow me down.
