I’m joining the disability march because a chronic medical condition makes it impossible for me to stand for more than 3 or 4 minutes or sit for more than an hour. I can’t comfortably ride in a car or bus or plane, and I can’t march anywhere!
My husband and I (in our 70s) are the legal guardians of our disabled adult daughter. Growing up, I dealt with parental mental illness with no help. Adults discouraged my interest in careers; I was denied many jobs. I endured sexual harassment, assault, and beatings from men, without recourse. I was forbidden birth control in my teens and 20s. I fear Trump’s totalitarianism and deplore his plans to destroy cherished American values, including clean air and water, affordable comprehensive health insurance, fair pay, progressive taxation, racial and gender equality, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
