I have a Ph.D. in psychology and was pursuing a career as a therapist before my illness forced me to go on disability.
I have a severe autoimmune disease that comes with (among other things) immunoglobulin deficiency, systemic inflammatory arthritis, and chronic fatigue. My health is especially fragile at the moment and cross-country travel is too risky and difficult.
I march because I refuse to normalize the deterioration of our political system and creeping fascism. I march because I believe Trump’s election merely revealed the rot at the core of our system of government. I march because I recognize that if the current government achieves even a fraction of its goals people will suffer and die and I refuse to endorse that. I march because I believe that silence is compliance. I march because watching Trump and the GOP weaponize every form of bigotry makes me sick and furious. I march because I believe nobody is safe unless everyone is safe. I march because I understand that carnage has a way of leaking out from the “target groups” into the rest of society. I march because we have to fight now when resistance can be non-violent and will hopefully only cost us time and money. I march because I recognize that if I don’t speak for others, there will be no one left to speak for me.
