Why I Am Joining The March : I am joining the March to add my voice to the many other women longing for a world in which all human rights are respected. This includes LGBTQIA people, visual minorities, those who are disabled physically or mentally, those with limited financial means or education, immigrants, and yes, women. I stand with all women marching to advocate especially for the marginalized and forgotten, and to let the world know that women’s rights are human rights and we will not be defeated.

But, I march in spirit, for all the people like me whose lives have been saved by the ACA. I am truly scared for what the future holds, if/when the ACA is repealed, but the Women’s March and the Disability March, and the individual stories of all the participants, give me a glimmer of hope that all is not lost.

Why I Am Joining The March : I march because I am a disabled veteran of the Vietnam era and an ordained minister. I live on Social Security and my VA compensation. I have seen so much progress over the years for civil rights and I am angry that there is a concerted effort being made to take it all away. Those in Washington forget that women, the elderly, the disabled, people of color, and the LGBT community, etc. have rights – civil rights – human rights. They forget this at their peril because we vote and we need to remind them that we vote. My sisters and brothers are of every color, religion, ethnicity, orientation, race, gender identity. There is no “Other”. There is only “Us”. We are all ONE.

The election of Donald Trump will, I believe, send the Woman’s Movement back to the 1950s. We have to stand strong and stand together to move forward in our goals to better ourselves and our daughters.

I still have much to offer the world through my art, my kindness, and my reaching out to help those around me.
CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?
